I am a professor in statistics with a special interest in statistical applications in medicine, including register studies, epidemiology and clinical trials.
I am a professor in statistics and associate professor (docent) in experimental medicine. I am a member of the steering groups for
, and the Swedish national quality register for stroke care (
).
I have a particular interest in statistical applications in medicine. This includes register studies, epidemiology and clinical trials. My own research concerns methods and comparisons to predict outcome and identify inequalities in stroke care, and is based on linkage of large nationwide registers. In interdisciplinary projects, we study differences in access and outcome of healthcare, related to e.g. sex, age, socio-economy, or place of residence. Fair comparisons of patient groups, hospitals and regions are an important mean to achieve and maintain a high quality healthcare on equal terms!
I defended my thesis at the department of public health and clinical medicine, Umeå University in 2008 and became an associate professor in 2012. In 2017, I was appointed professor in statistics, at the department of statistics, where I was also deputy head until November 2021. I have a background in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, have e.g. been responsible for the MONICA survey in northern Sweden, and have 20 years of experience working with national quality registers. When there is time I also do consultancy work, primarilly within biostatistics and medical applications.
