Matthias Barz holds the position of Professor of Biotherapeutic Delivery within the Division of BioTherapeutics at Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research, which is affiliated with Leiden University. His primary research focus centers on the advancement of functional nanoparticles constructed from polypept(o)ides, with applications in both diagnosis and therapy. In 2014, his laboratory pioneered the utilization of polypept(o)ides, a novel class of hybrid materials combining polypeptides and polypeptoids, in various polymer architectures. In recognition of his independent research contributions, he has been honored with numerous accolades, grants, and scholarships, including the prestigious Chemiedozentenpreis (Young Faculty Award) from the German Industry Fonds, VCI, in 2018.
