Position Details (PhD Research Project)

The Research Unit Accountancy, Finance and Insurance of the Faculty Economics and Business is looking for a motivated PhD student to contribute to research on the topic “Interactions Between Regulation, Frequency, and Effectiveness of ESG Shareholder Activism”.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Conduct thorough and qualitative cross-disciplinary research on the topic “Interactions Between Regulation, Frequency, and Effectiveness of ESG Shareholder Activism”.
  • Collaborating with professors and researchers affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Law and Criminology in the context of cross-disciplinary research projects.
  • Participate actively in academic life, including seminars, workshops, and (inter)national conferences.
  • Publish research findings in leading peer-reviewed academic journals.
  • Contribute to teaching activities at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, as required by the department.
  • Supervise bachelor’s and/or master’s theses at Campus Leuven.

Profile

  • You hold a Master’s degree in “Economics, Law and Business Administration”, “Business Administration”, “(Applied) Economic Sciences”, “Business Engineering”, or an equivalent field, with strong academic results and a completed master’s thesis.
  • You meet the criteria outlined in Section 3 of the doctoral programme regulations.
    Note: Applicants with a “Master in Economics, Law and Business Administration” or Master in Advanced Studies of Economics are especially encouraged to apply and will be given priority.
  • You demonstrate a strong interest in academic research and possess solid statistical and analytical skills. You are passionate about exploring both business and legal questions.
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken, with excellent academic writing abilities.
  • You are capable of critically reviewing academic literature.
  • You are comfortable presenting research findings in academic settings such as seminars and conferences.
  • You are eager to learn and highly motivated to take relevant methodological courses.

Offer

  • A full-time position for one year, renewable up to a maximum of four years, subject to positive annual evaluations.
  • Employment based at Campus Leuven, within the Faculty of Economics and Business at KU Leuven.
