YOUR TASKS
Cosmological hydrodynamic simulations are an important way to investigate the formation and evolution of galaxies. The UGent SKIRT group has a unique expertise in generating synthetic data products for cosmological simulations, which allow researchers to compare simulations with observations in an unambiguous way. The group is seeking a postdoctoral researcher as part of the new COLIBRE (COLd Ism and Better REsolution) simulation.
- You investigate the optimal way to generate synthetic data products for the COLIBRE simulations.
- You generate and analyze synthetic spectra and images, and compare them with observations.
- You work closely with the other members of the UGent SKIRT team, in particular with the PhD students working on synthetic data.
- You engage in intense collaboration with colleagues from the COLIBRE simulation. You provide advice to other COLIBRE scientists who want to create synthetic data based on the SKIRT code.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You have a PhD degree in astronomy or a related field of study.
- You have research experience in extragalactic astronomy and/or cosmology. Specific experience in radiative transfer and/or working with cosmological hydrodynamic simulations is a plus.
- You enjoy working in an international team environment.
- You have good communication skills.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 9 months.
- Your contract will start on 1/11/2025 at the earliest.
