We are seeking a highly motivated and interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the e-Media Research Lab within the Faculty of Engineering Technology at KU Leuven. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research and education at the intersection of healthcare technology, human-centered design, and data-driven innovation in the context of long-term and elderly care.
This position is ideal for a researcher with a strong background in biomedical engineering, electronics/ICT, or health technology, and a passion for improving quality of life through technological innovation.

Responsibilities

Research Focus
The postdoc will work on projects related to:
  • Integration of wearable sensors, AI, and mobile health applications into care workflows;
  • User-centered design and co-creation with caregivers, residents, and healthcare professionals;
  • Translating research into scalable, ethical, and sustainable solutions for nursing homes and home care environments.
Educational Responsibilities
As part of the role, the postdoctoral researcher will actively contribute to engineering education through:
  • Supervision of masters thesis projects in the domains of health technology, sensor systems, and user-centered design;
  • Mentoring interdisciplinary student teams in Engineering Experience Projects, guiding them through real-world problem-solving;
  • Supporting the development and delivery of project-based learning modules that integrate research insights into hands-on education;
  • Contributing to the Advanced Master of Innovative Health Technology through guest lectures, workshops, or curriculum development.

Profile

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics/ICT, Health Technology, or related field
  • Proven experience in healthcare innovation, preferably in elderly care or assistive technologies
  • Strong skills in sensor systems, data analysis, and/or AI for health applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary and participatory research settings
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
  • Experience with project coordination or mentoring is an asset
