Position Details (PhD Program)

The primary objective of the Dentistry and Otorinolaryngology programme at Masaryk University is to deepen the theoretical knowledge and develop the ability to perform independent creative tasks in the field of basic and applied research in the context of the Otorhinolaryngology and Dentistry disciplines in the students.

Through the study of theoretical and applied courses; the preparation, processing, and presentation of the doctoral doctoral thesis; the students will display their abilities to conduct independent scientific tasks, to justify their results, and publish them in prestigious Czech and international journals.

The graduates of the Dentistry and Otorinolaryngology programme at Masaryk University should be prepared to continue their scientific careers at academic institutions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The graduates of the curriculum should be able to deeply understand the primary discipline and every corresponding inter-disciplinary relation, deeply understand the literature sources of their curriculum and be able to practically apply research methodology, including conducting laboratory and clinical experiments. They should also be capable of applying statistical methods to the degree necessary to construct optimal study designs and analyse scientific articles and studies. 

The graduates should also be aware of every ethical and sociological implications of biomedical research, while also being able to practically apply this knowledge in their research and clinical practice. Their doctoral thesis should adhere to the standard European quality criteria, which allow the publication of the results of their scientific endeavours in prestigious journals to happen.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • form exact definitions of research problems and propose their solutions,
  • plan the process of scientific research in a manner that ensures that relevant results are obtained in an adequate amount of time, using the available financial and human resources,
  • perform basic statistical analysis in the extent required for their current and planned research
  • interpret the results of research in such a way, that conclusions relevant to the determined objective can be drawn
  • present their results through oral presentations, posters, and articles, and that is both at the national and international level
  • defend the results and objectives of their research while respecting the current ethical guidelines
  • find the necessary relevant data sources and monitor the trends in the developments in their discipline
  • work independently as well as a part of a research team
