Position Details (PhD Program)

This Using chemical-genetics to inhibit and characterise (undruggable) enzymes project is offered at University of Dundee.

This Using chemical-genetics to inhibit and characterise (undruggable) enzymes Using chemical-genetics to inhibit and characterise (undruggable) enzymes project at University of Dundee University of Dundee will build on the strategy to develop a method to inhibit three phosphatase complexes with known substrate-binding motifs, and then potentially expand the system into other enzymes classes, all of which are currently undruggable.

Diversity statement

Our research community thrives on the diversity of students and staff which helps to make the University of Dundee a UK university of choice for postgraduate research. We welcome applications from all talented individuals and are committed to widening access to those who have the ability and potential to benefit from higher education.

The student will

  • use this system to characterise how these different enzymes work
  • perform mass-spectrometry to identify the enzymes’ direct substrates
  • use a range of cell biology techniques, including live and fixed cell microscopy, to characterise the processes that these enzymes control
  • develop a technology that could transform many different fields of research, potentially revealing new avenues for disease treatment
