This Exploring innovative clinical teaching strategies and their implementation through the use of technology enhanced leaning Exploring innovative clinical teaching strategies and their implementation through the use of technology enhanced leaning project at University of Dundee University of Dundee aims to explore and understand the rationale for using a broader range of clinical teaching strategies and to investigate the current and emerging methods such as simulation, gamification, and virtual reality in both medical schools at undergraduate level.

Context

Clinical teaching is one of the crucial components in the realm of medical education. It helps students to fill their knowledge gaps between theoretical foundation and practical training (Chapman & Clegg, 2007; Crane, 1991), linking theory to practice. Moreover, clinical teaching provides students with a safe clinical learning environment and opportunities to apply foundational knowledge into practical situations (Oermann & Gaberson, 2009), hence linking theory to practice. Technological advancement seen in various educational settings is envisaged as a powerful tool to facilitate teaching and learning (AAMC, 2007). Clinical teaching today is held in a variety of educational settings which includes skills lab, simulation centres, online, and game-based learning (gamification) (Challa et al., 2021).

The potential PhD candidate will

  • carry out an in depth study on the application of technology in both schools
  • identify opportunities for implementation of new strategies within their curriculum
