Human Services Psychology

The Human Services Psychology programme offered at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)is composed of three interrelated and complementary programmes which provide education and training in clinical psychology, behavioral medicine, and community psychology.

Human Services Psychology is defined as that sector of professional psychology concerned with the promotion of human well-being through the acquisition and application of psychological knowledge and principles concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of psychological and physical disorders.

Consequently, the programme is based on a scientist-practitioner model of training which aims to provide students with skills as both researchers and practitioners.

Curriculum:

• The HSP programme includes a core curriculum, practicum and research requirements (including a masters thesis and doctoral dissertation), and tracks.

• There are three tracks available: clinical (APA accredited), behavioral medicine, and community.

• The programme is expected to be completed in five years, including an internship for clinical track students.

• Students may be able to designate dual tracks.
