Laboratory Assistant & Chemist

I’m Laboratory Assistant in department of biotechnology, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore. I have completed my MS-Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry) degree with CGPA:3.60/4.00 in September 2021 while BS-Chemistry was completed in August 2019 with CGPA: 3.57/4.00 as well from LCWU. I also got best team category award at national level in science project (2012): “Purification of water” from Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) that encourages me to exposure more new chapters in Chemistry research.
I degraded the herbicides through photocatalysis during my courses of research works. Topics of my BS thesis (2019) was “Synthesis of ZnO:a-Fe2O3 and photocatalytic degradation of Imidaclopride” while MS thesis (2021) based upon “ Synthesis of Ag2O.Co3O4.CuO nanocomposites and study of their applications in degradation of glyphosate”. I used different characterization techniques (UV, FTIR, SEM, TGA, XRD, HPLC and GCMS etc) to study the optimum rate of degradation of the herbicides under UV-Visible spectrophotometer. ZnO:a-Fe2O3 (3:1) showed optimum activity of degradation of imidaclopride in basic media while Ag2O.Co3O4.CuO (1:3:1) degraded the glyphosate in acidic media. I wrote a research article (2022) about transition metals reduction in soil & water through bacteria:
“Assessment of metal reducing bacteria residing in industrial wastewater: a bacterial-based bioremediation approach”. We collected the waste water and soil samples from 20 different Pakistani local industries. The bacterial
strains (streptococcus & staphylococcus) isolated from industrial wastes and soils showed significant resistivity against various concentrations of Zn and Cr and reduced it efficiently under different conditions (pH, incubation time, temperature, and UV light). The use of microorganisms for bioremediation is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach to reduce heavy metals present in our water and soil.
