Position Details (PhD Research Project)

The ACRO research group (Automation, Computer Vision & Robotics) of KU Leuven is part of the Faculty of Engineering Technology at the Diepenbeek campus and brings together researchers from the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. ACRO is also part of the M&A core lab (Manufacturing & Automation) of FlandersMake@KULeuven.

In close collaboration with (Flemish) companies and stakeholders, ACRO conducts applied, valorisation-oriented research, focusing on translating academic research into industrial and societal applications across a wide range of domains and sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, healthcare, construction, and waste recycling.

Project

Build the (mobile) robots of the future! In this PhD position, you will design smart, adaptive end-effectors (robot grippers) and robotic systems that not only move, but also ‘think’ and feel. Using advanced sensors, precision mechanics, and intelligent control, you will create technology that opens up new possibilities in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and construction.

Profile

  • Master’s degree in Electromechanics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience in mechanical and mechatronic design.

  • Strong analytical skills and a curiosity for applied research.
