Position Details (PhD Program)

Fluid flows may be compressible either because flow velocities approach the speed of sound, or because variations in the concentration of a scalar vary the local density. Learn more at New approaches to modelling compressible boundary layer flows from the Loughborough University.

Key facts of the  New approaches to modelling compressible boundary layer flows New approaches to modelling compressible boundary layer flows programme offered by  Loughborough University Loughborough University

If this flow takes place near a boundary, such complexities add to what is already a complex phenomenon as multiple flow structures act to dissipate energy from the flow, while at the same time being produced by the velocity gradients.

To correctly model such flows for practical applications requires an approximation to these physics so that computations can be undertaken efficiently.

The aim of this project is to formulate and then test new approaches to representing these complex physics with a view to developing techniques of relevance to practical application. The project will involve a combination of theoretical and numerical approaches.
