Position Details (PhD Program)

We invite applications for a four-year PhD position in the field of Organic Electronics, with a focus on the development of a novel light-emission technology, termed the light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC). The LEC is currently attracting increasing interest from both academia and industry since it: (i) can deliver bright and easily patterned light emission at low voltage; (ii) can be thin, lightweight and flexible; (iii) can be fabricated in its entirety by cost- and energy-efficient printing; (iv) can be highly sustainable (free from toxic and rare compounds and potentially recyclable); (v) exhibits a unique operational mode in that a p-n junction doping structure forms during the initial device operation.

The PhD project will be performed at the Swedish SME LunaLEC AB (www.lunalec.com) and The Organic Photonics and Electronics Group at Umeå University, Sweden (www.opeg-umu.com). The selected PhD student will be an active member of the European Marie Sklodowska-Curie Training Network programme FADOS, which comprises 17 PhD students positioned at eight universities, four research institutes, and four companies.

We expect that the qualified applicant (at the time of employment) has a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, materials science or similar, and share our passion for developing an emerging technology for practical applications by systematic material development and advanced characterization methods and device fabrication. The deadline for application is 2025-09-30, and the starting date is 2026-02-01 or by agreement.
