Position Details (PhD Program)

The primary objective of the Physiology, Pathological Physiology, Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry degree programme at Masaryk University is to prepare qualified professionals in scientific tasks in the fields of medical, physiological, pathophysiological, chemical, and biochemical sciences.

The Physiology, Pathological Physiology, Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry degree programme at Masaryk University develops the skills of excellent master’s degree graduates of medical, veterinary, pharmaceutical or natural science disciplines. Those skills include the ability to perform independent creative tasks in the area of research, development, and implementing clinical applications. Therefore the studies are focused on the deepening of their theoretical foundations and introducing them to modern discoveries in the fields of Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Biology while focusing on practical applications in medical sciences.

The graduates of the field are encouraged to continue their scientific-pedagogic careers at universities or clinical medicine fields. They can also work in research institute laboratories focusing on Biochemistry, Physiology, and all related sciences, as independent developer staff.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The graduates of the field are encouraged to continue their scientific-pedagogic careers at universities, specifically in Theoretical Medicine institutes or in clinical discipline areas of faculty hospitals. They can also work in the laboratories of research institutes focusing on Biochemistry, Physiology, and every related science. The students will be able to continue their scientific pursuits in the areas of basic and applied research.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • plan and design experiments, evaluate and statistically process the results, and interpret the results in larger contexts
  • systematically seek out scientific literature and actively apply the discovered information in the development of their scientific endeavours
  • have an understanding of the methods used in their discipline and independently implement new procedures and methods
  • discover new scientific issues and design proposals for their solution through grant projects
  • prepare journal publications and academic presentations for conferences, both in the Czech and English language
  • adhere to the ethical principles of scientific pursuits and understand the specific ethical aspects of their discipline
