YOUR TASKS
– At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research:This includes personally conducting high-quality research in the field of fracture mechanics, as well as supervising PhD students conducting research in this field. The research activities will be part of ongoing projects with regard to hydrogen embrittlement, fracture resistance of metal components and structures. This concerns, among other things, the development of experimental methods including instrumentation, as well as the development of numerical models.
– This includes personally conducting high-quality research in the field of fracture mechanics, as well as supervising PhD students conducting research in this field. The research activities will be part of ongoing projects with regard to hydrogen embrittlement, fracture resistance of metal components and structures. This concerns, among other things, the development of experimental methods including instrumentation, as well as the development of numerical models.
– Take responsibility for project coordination, dissemination and scientific valorization of research results.
– Actively contribute to the acquisition of funding for fundamental and applied research in the field of the vacancy.
– Education:Contribute to the organization of exercise sessions for the English-taught course “Construction Techniques”.Supervising students who are carrying out a master’s thesis in the field of this vacancy.

– Services:Contribute to industrial service projects of the Soete Laboratory.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
– You hold a thesis-based doctorate in the field of Mechanical Engineering
– You have experience in experimental fracture mechanics (performing fracture mechanics tests, instrumentation for deformation measurements and crack monitoring)
– You have experience in computational fracture and damage mechanics
– You have already carried out high-quality scientific research in the field of fracture mechanics, as evidenced by publications in scientific journals and conference contributions
– You have demonstrable experience in acquisition and coordination of research projects
– You have demonstrable experience in supervising master and PhD students
– You have demonstrable experience in providing academic education
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
– We offer you a contract of indefinite duration.
– Your contract will start on May 1, 2025 at the earliest.
– Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
