Do you want to be part of developing the school of the future and tackle the core issues of learning by developing and applying the latest data and AI-based technologies and methods?Applicable research fields: Learning Analytics, Computer Science / Information Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Education, Psychology and Cognitive Science, Linguistics or other relevant fields.We are now looking for a Senior Researcher / a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Turku  Research Institute for Learning Analytics, a two-year fixed-term appointment starts at earliest on March 2025 or according to agreement, and ends 31.3.2027, funded by the TRILA projects.The work is related to the EDUCA Flagship and the MOE – Mathematics Learning and Teaching Ecosystem – consortium project. The mission of the EDUCA – The Education for the Future Flagship is to generate new knowledge and understanding of why learning outcomes decline, why the educational dropout rate increases, and how technology is used in teaching. The MOE project focuses on supporting flexible and advanced mathematical thinking, which is crucial for STEM fields. The aim of the project is to promote mathematical competence and appreciation, as well as to develop elements related to mathematics teaching, learning, assessment, and support.The positions currently available will focus on some of the following research areas related to TRILA’s and related projects’ objectives:Utilising adaptive and AI models in digital learning environmentsTeaching, learning and assessment of computational thinking skills in digital learning environmentsUtilising digital learning environments in assessing and supporting children’s well-being, cognitive and socio-emotional skillsEffectiveness of digital interventions on mathematical and/or reading skillsKnowledge management in education

Who we are looking for

Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant field to the research topics (learning analytics, computer science / software engineering, mathematics and statistics, education, psychology, linguistics or other appropriate fields).  It is expected a candidate to have previous experience and knowledge in research methods related to processing of large data sets. Experience in e-learning environments and/or research/development experience in data analytics is counted as an advantage.We expect the applicant to be able to contribute on a high academic level to one or more of the mentioned research areas, including seeking external funding and contributing to the unit both with independent research and collaborative efforts.
