Engineer GHolami

As far as I can remember, my mind has always been fascinated with oil reservoirs and how can be recovered it. Actually, this urge came from the fact that Iran is located in a very rich oil and gas reservoirs and it made me determined to choose Petroleum Engineering as my major. Consequently, I tried my best to be admitted to the universities in Iran, and I chose Jihad Daneshdahi Universities as was the first University in Isfahan (my city) that has this major on that year.

The first years of my bachelor’s study were not quite as exciting as I expected. Taking theoretical and fundamental courses did not satisfy my executive personality. It was during the third and fourth years of my undergraduate study that I Finally got the chance to take courses pertinent to oil reservoirs and the ways of recovering them, such as “Oil Reservoirs Engineering”, “mathematics”, and “Geology”. I found this courses truly fascinating among other courses that were offered. Finally, I realized that Petroleum Engineering is the field that exactly matches my academic and personal interests. After completing my undergraduate studies, I decided to take a bigger step and studies for nationwide University Entrance Exam. Because of my stunning of performance at the exam, I was able to continue my studies at Isfahan University of Technology in Hydrocarbon Reservoir Engineering program.

Moreover, I have been doing my master research with Prof.Shahverdi and Moridi. This multidisciplinary research was valuable for me since I could enhance my abilities to communicate with experts with different attitudes and analyze an issue from various viewpoints. The result of this research is being collected in a journal paper, which is in its final stages. The purpose of this research is to Optimization of production oil reservoirs cycles in terms of economic factors and conservation approach in upstream oil contracts by using the life-cycle optimization and stochastic approaches in long-term and short-term optimization, by conducting this research, I was able to develop a sophisticated skill in nonlinear modelling in MATLAB and optimization problems. I had also the chance to be Teacher Assistant (TA) for several undergraduate courses at Isfahan University of Technology, such as “Fluid Flow in Porous Media”, “The properties of fluid and rock of reservoirs”. These opportunities helped me increase my ability to supervise students term projects and express myself effectively in the lass. Moreover, I had the privilege to be instructor at “Eclipse and CMG workshop” held at the faculty for two consecutive terms.

As a matter of fact, when these days we face with optimization’s concept and I believe it is more important than before due to this competitive world that we have now, this matter is my main area of interest, and I try to include them in my research as far as I can complete it with other majors and I believe that corporation between engineer and other majors such as management and industry can be the best strategy for gain company’s goals. Actually, in my idea, nothing is definite and every value is accompanied by a standard deviation to account for its uncertainty. Furthermore, optimization and conservation approach has always fascinated my mind, and this interest is well projected in my research thesis. In order to satisfy this desire even more, I developed a sophisticated skill in Genetic Algorithm with MATLAB, and reservoir stimulation with Eclipse and CMG. Computer programing is also an area of interest for me and I have gained invaluable skills in programming software such as MATLAB, and PYTHON through these years.

The strong interaction between academia and industry, which provides students with various career and innovative research opportunities and the importance of Interdisciplinary works, well as distinguished faculty members, one factors that have motivated me to opt for this position. I believe that the program offered will help me reach my full potential as a researcher.
