YOUR TASKS

  • Hedera (https://www.ugent.be/ps/sociologie/en/research/hedera) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to research in the field of Health Sociology over a two-year period.
  • You will be responsible for executing the Flemish component of the Prevent Too project. Prevent Too is a Flemish-Swiss collaboration that uses secondary data to investigate inequalities in the use of preventive healthcare services and to examine strategies for addressing them. This work will be conducted in close collaboration with another postdoctoral researcher on our team.
  • You will take the lead in writing a research paper for a project on social mobility and loneliness in later life.
  • You will contribute to teaching by supervising master’s theses and guiding a group assignment within the Quantitative Research Design course.
  • You will actively support the functioning of our team, for example by supervising a PhD student or participating in the preparation of project proposals.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a PhD in Sociology (specializing in Health Sociology), Public Health, or a closely related field.
  • You have experience with advanced quantitative methods, e.g., multilevel and longitudinal analyses.
  • You have international publications in health sociology, public health, or social epidemiology journals (WoS-indexed journals)
  • You have consistently distinguished yourself throughout your academic training.
  • You are fluent in English.
  • You are willing to travel abroad and undertake a (short) research stay in Switzerland as part of the Prevent Too project.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in studying social inequities in healthcare, particularly with a focus on preventive services, will be considered an advantage
  • You are proactive, initiative-taking, and a team player.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer a fixed-term contract for a period of 2 years.
  • The earliest possible starting date is 1 February 2026.
