Position Details (Postdoc)

The Laboratory for Extracellular Vesicle Research is seeking a motivated early-career Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. Our research focuses on understanding how membrane-associated scaffold proteins regulate cell signaling - elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying extracellular vesicle (EV)-mediated communication. These vesicles play a key role in intercellular signaling in both health and disease and hold great promise as biomarker sources and therapeutic tools.
You will join an international collaborative research team based in Leuven and Marseille. Our team maintains strong ties with the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) and is actively involved in national and regional networks, including BESEV, FSEV, and CEEVEC.

Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral project aims to characterize nanobodies directed against heparan sulfate proteoglycans that we have recently developed. The successful candidate will explore their ability to modulate extracellular vesicle (EV) uptake and assess their potential for advancing EV-based therapeutic strategies.
This project offers the opportunity to address fundamental questions in EV signaling while contributing to the development of innovative tools for biomedical applications. You will work at the interface of cell biology, molecular biochemistry, and translational research, in a stimulating international environment with strong collaborative networks.

Profile

  • PhD in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or equivalent
  • Experience with heparan sulfate and/or nanobodies is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently together with a creative problem-solving mentality
  • Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is an asset but not mandatory

Offer

We provide full-time employment in a stimulating international work environment equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Initially, we offer a 2-year postdoctoral position with the possibility to extend. Candidates are encouraged to apply for additional (inter)national funding and fellowships.
You will be based in Leuven, a historic, dynamic and lively city in the heart of Belgium, within close proximity to major European capitals. KU Leuven is a research-intensive, internationally-oriented university that conducts fundamental and applied scientific research. It is highly inter- and multidisciplinary focused and strives for international excellence.
