Position Details (Postdoc)

The Translational Cardiomyology Lab (TCL), led by Prof. Maurilio Sampaolesi at KU Leuven, is seeking an ambitious and creative Postdoctoral Researcher to join our multidisciplinary team within FIT-Interreg project (https://www.interregmeuserhine.eu/en/projects/fit/). The TCL is internationally recognized for its pioneering work on skeletal and cardiac muscle regeneration, combining fundamental and translational approaches to tackle muscle degeneration and develop innovative therapies.

About the lab
The TCL focuses on adult and pluripotent stem cell biology and their application in muscle disease modeling and regeneration. Our research explores how epigenetic regulation, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and microRNAs, orchestrates myogenic commitment and tissue repair.
Recent projects extend into the exciting field of extracellular vesicles (EVs) and miRNA-mediated signaling, investigating how protein and miRNA cargos can modulate degenerative muscle phenotypes in conditions such as muscular dystrophies, cachexia, sarcopenia, and rhabdomyosarcoma.

Responsibilities

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and engage with cutting-edge methodologies, including:
• Derivation and culture of pluripotent and adult stem cells
• CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing and viral transduction
• Transcriptomics (bulk RNAseq and scRNAseq) proteomics and bioinformatic data analysis
You will contribute to ongoing projects, mentor junior researchers, and play a key role in developing new strategies for regenerative and therapeutic interventions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to produce high-impact data and contribute to the advancement of translational muscle biology.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated, independent, and collaborative scientist with:
• A PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline
• A strong publication record and a genuine passion for translational research
• Proven experience in stem cell differentiation, early developmental biology, or cell signaling
• Skills in cell cycle studies, gene editing, or bioinformatics will be considered an advantage
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Offer

• A full-time position for one year, renewable upon positive evaluation
• The opportunity to apply for personal fellowships with full institutional support
• Access to KU Leuven’s state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant international research community
• Collaborations with leading academic and clinical partners across Europe
• A competitive salary and benefits package aligned with KU Leuven standards
• Strong support for career development, including publishing in top-tier journals and attending international conferences.
Join us in shaping the future of regenerative medicine and muscle biology in one of Europe’s most dynamic and collaborative research environments.
