Position Details (Postdoc)
Job description
Brussels offers the advantages of a multicultural capital at the heart of Europe, along with the convenience of a human-scale city. Working at ULB means being part of a green, vibrant, and intellectually stimulating environment. Internationally recognised, ULB covers all academic disciplines, combining high-quality teaching with cutting-edge research.
The logistician will contribute to the development of the research activities of the platform, which is spread across two campuses (Plaine and Erasme). The position aims to facilitate coordination between mass spectrometry instrument managers and enhance the visibility and coherence of the services offered.
Main Responsibilities:
Administrative and scientific coordination support
- Harmonise practices across different units and promote the visibility of ULB’s mass spectrometry equipment and expertise.
- Serve as the main contact for new collaborations, follow up ongoing projects, and coordinate sample preparation and injections.
- Finalise the integration of equipment from the Faculties of Medicine and Science into a unified platform and define shared management procedures.
- Implement a booking system, cost accounting in real terms, and quality assurance in collaboration with the DAF and DR.
- If the FEDER grant is awarded: contribute to the creation and management of the BRUXSOMICS platform (ULB-VUB), integrating omics data (proteomics, metabolomics), enabling their interconnection (with clinical data), and ensuring their analysis and long-term storage.
- Support the search for funding to maintain and develop mass spectrometry at ULB (drafting of FNRS, FER, foundation applications, etc.).
- Initiate new collaborations, particularly with clinical researchers from the HUB.
- Participate in the organisation of training sessions, courses, and workshops (sample preparation, MS data acquisition).
Research support
- Design, validate, and adapt analytical methods tailored to user needs.
- Manage and analyse data using the platform’s bioinformatics tools (FragPipe, R, W4M, MZMine, MassLynx, DynamX, etc.).
- Train researchers in bioinformatics tools.
- Oversee data flow across proteomics, metabolomics, and structural proteomics in a multi-omics framework.
- Improve user-friendliness of analysis tools (e.g., R scripts for HDX data visualisation, workflow optimisation).
- Develop a personal research project based on integrated omics data analysis.
The candidate will be a member of the analytical platform (APFP & Bruproms), which brings together three research groups in structural proteomics (Biochemistry and Structural Biology, Faculty of Science, Dr C. Martens, www.chloemartenslab.com), proteomics (BRUPROMS, Prof. X. Bisteau ,https://bruproms.ulb.be and metabolomics (APFP, Prof. C. Delporte and P. Van Antwerpen).
