Chemistry

Dalhousie University and its Department of Chemistry are internationally renowned for their world-class research and have been ranked as the best place in Canada for postdocs by The Scientist. Students in the Master of Science in Chemistry program conduct research across a broad spectrum of chemistry fields, including analytical, environmental, inorganic, materials, and theoretical chemistry.

Dalhousie University offers the largest graduate program east of Montreal and the only PhD chemistry program in Nova Scotia. The department fosters a collegial atmosphere with extensive collaborations, and its excellence is reflected in research grants totalling about $2.1 million annually.

Students in the Master of Science in Chemistry program engage in cutting-edge research across a wide range of chemistry disciplines, including analytical, environmental, inorganic, materials, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry. Collaborating with dedicated faculty, postdoctoral researchers, undergraduate students, and technical support staff, you will undertake independent and innovative research under the guidance of a supervisor. You will pursue independent and original research guided by a supervisor to develop and defend your thesis.

With your Master of Science in Chemistry, you are well-placed to work in a supervisory position in a lab or research facility, advanced training in chemistry can also lead to employment in many other fields.
