The Virumaa College at Tallinn University of Technology invites applications to fill in a postdoctoral researcher position. The workplace is located in Kohtla-Järve.

Job description

The goal of the position is to conduct research in the field of human-robot interaction, smart manufacturing, AI/ML, IIoT, and automation technologies in both real and digital (virtual and augmented reality) environments, following the Industry 5.0 concept.

Tasks:

  • Research on human-robot interaction (HRI), smart manufacturing, and digital transformation, under the concept of Industry 5.0.
  • Development and implementation of AI/ML-based automation solutions; design and optimization of data-driven production systems (IIoT, industrial automation, UI/UX).
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, academic and industrial partners, and participation in joint projects.
  • Publication of findings in influential international journals and conferences.
  • Teaching and supervising theses in relevant research fields.

Professional experience

The following is necessary:

  • PhD in smart manufacturing, digital technologies, HRI, automation, or a related field.
  • Strong background in IIoT, AI/ML, HRI, industrial automation, and data analytics.
  • Proficiency with most of the following: Python, R, MATLAB, Node-RED, SQL; competence in industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT).
  • Hands-on experience with sensor-based automation, predictive maintenance, and robotic systems.
  • Excellent research and publication results in relevant areas.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Experience with cyber-physical systems, lean manufacturing, cloud-based infrastructure, and smart monitoring solutions is an advantage.
  • Language skills: advanced English; Estonian: readiness to achieve basic level within a year from taking up the position.
