Position Details (PhD Research Project)

We are now seeking to recruit a
Doctoral Researcher in Philosophy
with an emphasis on early modern philosophy, particularly metaphysics, theories of cognition, and epistemology.
About the job
The position is part of the project Epistemic Resilience and the Foundations of Cognition: A Study in Early Modern Philosophy, funded by the Eudaimonia Institute of the University of Oulu.
As a doctoral researcher, you will pursue your dissertation as part of a research group, contribute to project-related tasks, and undertake a small amount of teaching. You will also develop your international research profile, for example by presenting at academic conferences and publishing your research in prominent journals in the field.

Who are you?
In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:
- A Master’s degree in Philosophy. The degree must be completed before the start of the doctoral researcher position
- Excellent written and spoken English skills
- The ability to work successfully both independently and as part of a research group
- Eligibility for admission to the University of Oulu Graduate School (the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS)) doctoral training programme
Salary
The position is fixed-term for three years, starting on 1 January 2026 (or as agreed).
The salary will be based on the levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approx. 2600-3200 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
