Post-doctoral fellow (f/m) on ID21 in the X-ray Spectroscopy group
Position Details (Postdoc)
The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.
Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.
Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.
ID21 is an X-ray nano-spectroscopy beamline, operating in the tender X-ray domain (2-11keV), which has been recently refurbished. The beamline hosts two scanning X-ray microscopes which offer 2D X-ray fluorescence mapping, and XANES capabilities, at room temperature and in cryo conditions, and are optimized to detect, identify and locate metals in complex matrices. As a post-doctoral fellow, you will contribute to the scientific exploitation, operation, and development of the beamline instruments, in the context of an ANR project dedicated to investigate the role of metals in Alzheimer's disease:
- Exploiting ID21's unique technical possibilities in close collaboration with the ICS Neuro team from LP2i Bordeaux and the ID21 beamline team to develop correlative (cryo)microscopy approaches, sample preparation protocols, and data analysis strategies.
- Coordinate with the scientists from the ICS Neuro team the transfer of samples to be analysed at ESRF.
- Perform experiments at ID21 and other relevant beamlines for this project (sample reception, data acquisition, data analysis, manuscript writing).
- Ph.D. degree or equivalent in biophysics, biochemistry or biology.
- Good background on X-ray imaging and/or X-ray absorption spectroscopy
- Previous experience with manipulation and analysis of biological samples
- Previous experience on a synchrotron facility
- Good communication skills and proficiency in English, to integrate into a multidisciplinary and international research team
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18-month period.
