Your tasks

The position includes the following responsibilities:

  • You are primarily engaged in mathematical research and algorithmic development within Project B08 of SFB 1294 (https://www.sfb1294.de). This includes the theoretical investigation of methods, uncertainty quantification, and the design of algorithms using techniques such as reinforcement learning, data assimilation, and causal inference for personalized treatment strategies in the context of various medical conditions. A central objective is the development of a digital twin.
  • You publish your research findings in renowned journals, including those in the SIAM series, and aim to complete your PhD within the duration of the fixed-term employment.
  • You actively participate in and contribute to the organization of events within SFB 1294, collaborating closely with researchers in the project and in the Data Science Lab.
  • You assist in supervising student theses and engage actively in academic self-governance.
  • You present your research at national and international conferences, workshops, and meetings, and undertake short research stays with collaboration partners abroad.

Your profile

For being part of the selection process is needed:

  • A completed university degree (Master/ Dipl. (Univ.)) in mathematics, computer science with a mathematical focus, or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Solid knowledge in data assimilation, particularly in particle filtering, as well as in data science, statistical and machine learning, reinforcement learning, and statistics, demonstrated through excellent theses or successfully completed coursework.
  • Good knowledge of Mathematics of Data Science relevant to research and teaching.
  • Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English.
  • Very good to good programming skills (e.g. in Python and MATLAB)
