Doctoral Research Assistant (f/m/d)
(deutsch: wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in)
to promote their own academic qualifications within the meaning of § 2 (1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) from 01.03.2026.
This doctoral position is examining the topics of fault detection and diagnosis, as well as advanced control methods.
This position is initially offered for a three-year period, which can be extended to a maximum of six years.
Your tasks
Your job tasks includes the following responsibilities:
- Research in the area of fault detection and diagnosis as well as advanced control methods.
- Teaching seminars and laboratories in the area of automation engineering
- Supervision of projects as well as bachelor’s and master’s students
- Applying for research grants
- Contribution to the scientific community
Your profile
For being part of the selection process is needed:
- University degree (Master or equivalent) in the general area of process control, automation engineering, and process (or chemical) engineering
- excellent English skills (in reading, writing, speaking, and listening)
Following competences are desirable:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, MATLAB, and computer programming
- Ability to work independently (self-motivated)
- Knowledge of German is beneficial
Please provide evidence of the qualifications required for the job by certificates and references and please provide the following documents:
- Cover Letter
- Complete Curriculum Vitæ (CV), including all publications, patents, education, and conference presentations
- Either one conference or journal article with a length of at least six pages and in English (a link to the article, if freely available online will suffice) OR a copy of the master’s thesis (if it be in English or German).
- A four-page research proposal providing an outline for a potential doctorate in the aforementioned areas. It should focus on a specific topic within the areas mentioned above. It should contain a literature review, potential research questions (objectives), and a research plan. It can be assumed for the purposes of this research plan that a doctorate will be three years.
- all university transcripts (both bachelor‘s and master’s). If the transcripts are not in English or German, an English translation and the originals must be provided.

In principle, the job is also suitable for part-time employment. The extent to which a part-time request can be granted, in particular with regard to the location and extent of part-time work, will be examined on the basis of the needs of the service.
