- You’ll develop your knowledge of National Curriculum subjects in the primary curriculum with a focus on teaching and learning in Key Stage 1 and 2 alongside hands-on classroom experience.
- A significant amount of your learning will take place in our partnership schools. You’ll benefit from being able to observe experienced teachers, gain practical hands-on experience and mentoring to help you develop into an outstanding and successful teacher.
- Successful completion of your PGCE course prepares you to start your first teaching post within a primary school.
- Our course is designed to prepare you to teach pupils in the 5-11 age range, with opportunities to develop a comprehensive understanding of progression to Key Stage 3 and from the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Placements
You’ll undertake a number of compulsory placements as part of your program, in fact you’ll spend over 120 days in at least two partner schools.
You’ll experience the wider role of a teacher in primary education. You’ll have the support of both a class and senior mentor in schools who will help you to develop your practice through observations, planning meetings, weekly tutorials, reports and in-depth lesson evaluations. Your link tutor will visit you in school to guide, support and evaluate your progress.
Our partnership schools are situated across the local area including Kirklees, Calderdale, Oldham, Manchester, Rochdale, Wakefield, Barnsley, Bradford and we’ll endeavour to place you in a convenient location.
