Karl Ludwig is a Professor at Boston University whose research centers on the use of X-ray scattering to probe the structure and dynamics of materials. He develops and applies advanced X-ray techniques, including coherent and grazing-incidence scattering, to study thin film growth, surface and interface morphology, and nanoscale structural evolution. His group conducts experiments at synchrotron light sources to capture real-time processes and elucidate fundamental mechanisms governing materials behavior. Ludwig’s work bridges condensed matter physics and materials science, providing insights relevant to nanotechnology and device fabrication. He leads the BU X-ray Lab and collaborates widely across national laboratories and industry.
