Junichiro Kono is a Professor at Rice University whose research spans terahertz spectroscopy, ultrafast optics, and the physics of nanomaterials. He investigates light–matter interactions in low-dimensional systems, including carbon nanotubes and related nanostructures, to uncover novel quantum and optoelectronic phenomena. Kono collaborates across Rice’s interdisciplinary initiatives and contributes to energy transition and advanced materials research featured in Rice Magazine. His work integrates fundamental condensed matter physics with cutting-edge photonics, enabling new platforms for high-speed electronics and quantum technologies. At Rice, he mentors students and leads projects that bridge basic science with practical applications in next-generation devices.
