Alexei Demchenko is a Professor of Chemistry at Saint Louis University and a leading figure in glycoscience. He specializes in carbohydrate chemistry, developing synthetic methodologies to construct complex oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates with applications in biology and medicine. Demchenko’s work spans protecting-group strategies, stereoselective glycosylation, and the creation of tools for probing carbohydrate-mediated processes. He founded and directs GlycoWorld, a hub for dissemination of glycoscience knowledge and community building. Prior to SLU, he served on the faculty at the University of Missouri–St. Louis. He has authored numerous publications and is widely recognized for advancing carbohydrate synthesis.
