Deepa Madan

Deepa Madan is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she leads the Materials for Energy, Sensing, and Hardware (MESH) group. Her research advances next-generation energy storage with emphasis on solid-state batteries, lithium-metal interfaces, and novel electrolyte chemistries. She integrates materials synthesis, advanced characterization, and device-level testing to enhance safety, energy density, and lifespan of electrochemical systems. At UMBC, she mentors a multidisciplinary team and collaborates across materials science and mechanical engineering. Her group pursues scalable solutions for transportation and grid applications, bridging fundamental materials discovery with practical battery technologies.
