David Hembry is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Texas Permian Basin. His research investigates the evolution and ecology of species interactions, with a focus on insect–plant mutualisms, coevolution, and diversification. He integrates fieldwork, phylogenetics, and natural history to understand how mutualistic relationships evolve and shape biodiversity. Hembry has conducted research in island and continental systems, examining how ecological networks and biogeography influence speciation. He teaches courses in evolution, ecology, and organismal biology, mentors undergraduate research, and publishes on mutualism, coevolutionary dynamics, and macroevolutionary patterns in natural communities.
