University Assistant with doctorate (m/f/d)

Your Responsibilities

The working groupINTEGRATIVES atthe Departement of Geography and Regional Science at the University of Graz, Austria, is seeking to hire a post-doctoral university assistant in the field of applied integrative geography.

INTEGRATIVES focuses on environmental research that operates at the interface of human and physical geography, as well as broadly across social and natural sciences. The project's regional focus is the Arctic and Sub-Arctic. The candidate's primary responsibility will be to co-develop and coordinate the planned 'SermilikT – Sermilik Methods Training and Research Hub for Decolonial, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Arctic Research'. This project is associated with theSermilik Research Station in East Greenland nearby the town of Tasiilaq.

• Contributing to the co-design of the (long-term) SermilikT project with local and cross-regional rights holders and community members, stakeholders and the research community in the natural and social sciences and humanities (SSH)
• Coordinating SermilikT activities
• Co-developing innovative training tools targeted to people interested in decolonial, inter- and transdisciplinary research from Indigenous communities, SSH and natural sciences
• Contributing toproject design andgrant applications, and participating in event organization for the INTEGRATIVES working group
• Independent and collaborative research in the field of decolonial, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research
• Conducting research (including fieldwork) in the region on applied themes that integrate SSH and physical sciences with societal relevance
• Scientific publication, as well as the production of societal outputs in various media types, and public engagement and science communication
• Independent teaching at BA and MA level (two courses per semester); assisting with teaching and examination dutiesin the departmentand supervising students
• Establishing international networks in research and teaching
• Assisting with organizational and administrative tasks as well as evaluation activities within the department
• Contributing to a joyful, innovative and collaborative work environment

Your Profile

• PhD in Human or Physical Geography, ora similar social or natural science discipline, with a thematic focus relevant to INTEGRATIVESand focusing onintegrative environmental sciences. Applications from Indigenous scholars are particularly welcome
• Interest in interdisciplinary dialogue between the social and natural sciences in environmental research, in line with applied integrative geography
• Experience of working with Indigenous rights holders and communities in the Arctic/Sub-Arctic is essential
• Understanding of methodological frameworks within the social sciences, with strong expertise in qualitative and interpretative research methods, especially in the context of decolonial, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. Candidates from the natural sciences should provide examples of how they(envision to)integrate social science methods into their work.Candidates with a background in the social sciences should explain how they (envision to) relate natural sciences themes to their work
• Solid scientific publication record (according to career level) and experience with science–society publication formats
• Enthusiasm for conveying knowledge to students and the wider community. Teaching experience is a bonus
• Excellent teamwork abilities combined with strong organisational skills
• Scientific and social creativity, as well as the ability to work independently
• Proficiency in spoken and written English. Skills in Danish, Tunumiisut or Kalaallisutare a bonus, as is a willingness to learn one of these languages
• Proficiency in MS Office, with an eagerness to develop additional IT skills, particularly for creative projects. Experience with software for qualitative data analysisis a bonus

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 69.060,59 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
